A CPR breakout happens when price decisively moves above or below the Central Pivot Range (CPR) — a three-line zone made of the Pivot, the Bottom Central (BC) and the Top Central (TC). Traders use it to judge whether the day is trending or range-bound.
What is the Central Pivot Range?
The CPR is drawn from the previous day's high, low and close. Pivot = (H+L+C)/3, BC = (H+L)/2, and TC = (Pivot − BC) + Pivot. A narrow CPR suggests a trending day ahead; a wide CPR suggests range-bound, choppy action.
How to trade a CPR breakout
A bullish CPR breakout is a sustained move and close above the TC with rising volume; a bearish breakdown is a close below the BC. Many traders wait for a retest of the CPR edge as support/resistance before entering, and place the stop just back inside the range.
How NSEStocksChart uses it
Our scanners run a rule-based CPR break strategy on Stock F&O, index options and crypto, on both intraday (30-min, 1-hour) and positional (daily, weekly) timeframes, and show each one's recorded accuracy so you can judge it on results, not promises.
