Indian Stock Market Today: NSE Gainers, Nifty Flow
Indian equities saw broad action in select counters on August 31, with several NSE names posting double-digit gains in the 5-20% band. Live platform data showed NIFTY 50 and BANK NIFTY both pointing up on direction, but with low-conviction option-flow scores and mixed radar probabilities.
NSE Top Gainers Today: Strong Moves in Select Stocks
Among today’s top NSE gainers in the 5-20% band, MEDICAMEQ rose 13.44% to close at 261.75, with a Cup Recovery pattern noted as retesting a prior peak. AYMSYNTEX gained 12.25% to 280.9 and showed both a Double Bottom with neckline broken and a Cup Recovery setup. MANALIPETC advanced 12.1% to 82.24 with a Double Bottom pattern, while TNPETRO climbed 11.44% to 121.6 on an Inverse Head & Shoulders signal.
ICIL added 11.2% to close at 470.8 with a Cup Recovery pattern. ADOR moved up 10.62% to 1705.7. KIRIINDUS gained 10.32% to 530.75 with a Double Bottom breakout, and AVTNPL rose 9.76% to 94.0 with a Double Bottom breakout as well.
A notable theme across the gainers list was the presence of classic reversal or recovery structures such as Double Bottom, Cup Recovery, and Inverse Head & Shoulders. That clustering suggests buyers were active in counters showing technically recognised base-building or breakout behaviour.
Nifty 50 and Bank Nifty Option Flow: Direction Up, Conviction Low
NIFTY 50 closed with spot at 24080.4. Its option-flow score stood at 35, classified as NOISE, while the direction was marked UP and flow skew came in at 2.4%. In practical terms, the directional label was positive, but the low score implies the options data did not show a strong, high-conviction trend signal.
BANK NIFTY spot was 58024.9. Its option-flow score was 30, also classified as NOISE, with direction UP and a much stronger flow skew of 24.6%. That means Bank Nifty’s options positioning had a more pronounced skew than Nifty’s, even though the overall score still remained in a low-confidence zone.
Index Radar Probabilities: Nifty Cautious, Bank Nifty More Balanced
The NIFTY 50 radar showed P(+0.5% move) at 21% versus P(-0.5%) at 87%. Even with the option-flow direction marked UP, these probability readings leaned heavily toward downside risk for a 0.5% move, highlighting a mismatch between direction and risk distribution.
For BANK NIFTY, the radar showed P(+0.5% move) at 41% versus P(-0.5%) at 30%. Compared with Nifty, Bank Nifty looked more balanced and relatively firmer on this probability framework. Taken together, the data suggested that traders may have been assigning a more constructive near-term setup to Bank Nifty than to the broader Nifty 50.
Retail Trading Takeaway: Don’t Read One Signal in Isolation
One useful lesson from today’s data is that market signals can conflict, and that is exactly why traders should avoid relying on a single indicator. NIFTY 50 had an UP direction on option flow, but its score was only 35 and the radar probabilities strongly favoured the downside for a 0.5% move. BANK NIFTY also had an UP direction with a low score, yet its radar probabilities were more supportive.
The same principle applies to individual stocks. A pattern label such as Double Bottom or Cup Recovery can help identify structure, but price change, closing level, and broader market context still matter. For retail traders, combining price action, pattern confirmation, and index-level derivatives data can offer a more disciplined read than following any one signal by itself.
